第一次 (2)


之前11月連續兩個禮拜
FJU TMC 總共有六個新的會員講他們人生的第一個speech
當然 有的生澀、有的成熟、有的緊張的忘稿、有的緩緩的道來自己人生的故事
各有千秋
今年是我在TM的第四年
很多事情我都不知不覺做到了
timer, speaker, evaluator, host(Toastmaster of the evening), judge, contest chair, trainer;
VPPR, treasurer, secretary of Area, secretary of Div.
當初吸引我到TM的人
現在幾乎都走了
有的在大陸工作
有的在準備國家考試
有的念研究所
有的去當兵了
不知不覺的我也變成吸引人家到TM的star
我的人生其實也一直在改變
這四年我把我的碩論完成了
我一直在維持著一定程度的肌力訓練
讓我的膝蓋能夠漸漸復原
我的家人
有的過世了
有的生病了
有的結婚了
有的買房子了
還有我重新拿起相機紀錄著我的生活
重新紀錄著我身邊的一草一物
花、草、蝴蝶、松鼠、夕陽 ............
突然之間 我的人生豐富了起來
對於TM 我的看法也越來越不同
早期我會抗拒、中間我會想落跑、把TM送到一邊去、到現在妥協 跟 TM和平共處
我一路從club的officer, 到assistant gov of Area & Div.
一直接觸到「人性」
有的豬頭就是不回信、不回電話、不回簡訊
不看manual、不follow agenda、 不管你是誰
我之前會覺得很氣
但是我也接觸到大家在寒冷的冬天夜裡一起在X'mas party熱舞
大家一起在 FB對會員的大小事做出「要加油」、「很棒」、"GoGo" 的熱切回應
.........................
後來我想起我自己學習的經驗
很多東西的第一次
我都是莫名其妙的做到
之前很突然的開始當judge
沒有準備的狀況下跑去問事業有成的TM如何幫club達到DCP
我做到了並不一定代表著其他人的學習方式是跟我一樣
我也有我的罩門
我也有我的盲點
每件事情都是一體兩面
研究所的訓練就是讓我去區分好壞、優劣、或是我本身的bias
...............
慢慢的學習
很穩的做到每件事的第一次 不容易喔!

Toastmasters Management (1)


I think I can start to record my experience, especially in management in TM now. After all, it's a chance for me to practice leadership skills and I do learn from it. I hope to apply these skills and experience to my job in the future. I am going to name it "TM management (x)"

Recently, I have reading a book "QBQ! The Question Behind The Question." The main reason is that I want to find out more solutions to the current problems I've encountered ever since I served as the secretary of Div. E & VPPR of Legend TMC.
The climate changed a lot, compared with the one beforehand. My previous resources, like my good friends (left TM), are gone.
I used to talk to my friends about the things bothered me, through the discussion, I would figure things out. Unfortunately, the climate changed, so, I have to find another method.
So, I started to search answers from books, like  business management. I noticed the book "QBQ" was simple and currently made me look at the problems with different perspectives.

The essence of "QBQ" are:
*Ask "what" and "how", instead of "why", "when" and "who."
*Use "I", not "you", "they" and "we"
* Action
* Stop complaining
* I can only change myself
* Act now.

One part caught me attention was about "ask the right question"

previous ones like:
* Manager: (the questions are modified in order to fit TM style)
Why the new members don't read the manuals?
When can we have good officers?
Why members are not active to take the job assignments?
Why members don't reply mail?   

QBQ will ask:
How can I do to help the members to read manuals?
How can I get to know more about members?

.........................
Toastmasters is not a profit organization. But, the principles of driving a group of people to do somethings are somehow the same, I think.

Maybe I have been asking the wrong questions.
Maybe my members have been asking the wrong questions, as well.
